"Eating Disorders": Parent Education Speaker Series

Join us March 10 for an informative discussion about Eating Disorders with Graham Redgrave.
Dr. Redgrave was educated at St. John’s College in Annapolis, MD and Santa Fe, NM. He graduated from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1999, completed a year of internal medicine training at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center followed by a general psychiatry residency, finishing in 2003. He joined the faculty immediately thereafter.

2015 All Parents Evening

Last Wednesday evening, January 28th, our All Parents Evening started quietly with everyone enjoying snacks and conversation, in the lobby, until the bell rang and parents hurried off to class. So began a busy evening of experience, explanation and understanding. The Mini Main Lesson period with Class Teachers was followed by different subject classes – Library, Handwork, Eurythmy, Orchestra, Music, and Spanish.

Participate in activities such as bread baking, singing, storytelling, puppetry, watercolor painting, finger-knitting and beeswax modeling. Be inspired by all student activities that develop concentration, small muscle development, and hand-eye coordination.

Find out why play is the serious work of childhood and is an essential part of the Waldorf early childhood classroom. Learning by doing provides the foundations for active imagination, problem solving, and creative thinking.

Congratulations, to Waldorf School of Baltimore students, Brinton Arnold and Emma Arnold (8th grade) for receiving certificates of participation in the Maryland Art Education Association (MAEA) Art Show reception, January 11, 2015 held at the Walters Art Museum.

The show has been on display January 6th - 25th. The Walters Art Museum and the Maryland Art Education Association celebrate students' artistic achievements with an exhibit of artwork inspired by the Walters' collection

"Sex and Sensibility"

Parents join us Thursday, February 19th at 7:00pm; with guest speaker, Debbie Roffman, to discuss Sex and Sensibility.

This talk will focus on sexuality through the lens of the "five universal needs" of children and adolescents across the developmental spectrum. Additionally, we will cover the five corresponding roles for the adult nurturers in their lives.

In Fourth Grade, Waldorf students learn about the human being and the animal world.  They learn what is special about human beings and what is special about animals, and the ways in which we share characteristics with our fellow creatures.

As heirs to a revolutionary legacy that transformed the landscape across Baltimore and the United States, the Waldorf School of Baltimore’s annual Civil Rights Luncheon aspires to continue the community’s engagement of the civil rights movement and its evolution. Esteemed authors, politicians, musicians, community activists, and educators, such as Fagan Harris, Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, and Kurt Schmoke, have spoken about various historical elements of the civil rights movement in relationship to the current progression of African-Americans.

Parent & Child classes lay the building blocks for elementary school. Science and math are introduced as tools for the exploration of movement and the physical properties of the natural world through play. Reading is rooted in language acquisition and the development of a rich imagination. Writing begins with strengthening the small motor skills. The teacher gently guides the natural play and interaction of the class towards healthy acquisition of these important skills, while the children do the activities at their own pace and in their own style.
