First and second grade went on a walk to Elephant Rock. Before free play, they were tasked with finding one thing they find interesting, and then tell us what they noticed, what they wondered about, and what it reminded them off.

Elephant Rock is overgrown with very pretty moss and lichen this time of year, and it had been a foggy morning. The mosses and lichen were gleaming in vibrant greens, browns, and tans. They looked soft, and fluffy, and all over irresistible!

A number of students were instantly drawn to them.

Here is what one of them told the group:

"I noticed the green, and brown. I noticed it is soft when you touch it."

"I wonder how it gets to be so green!!"

"It reminds me of carpet, and it reminds me of time, because moss has been there already in the time of the dinosaurs!"
