It’s the first day of school and a brand new class of kindergarteners are seeing the Waldorf School of Baltimore’s newest classroom for the first time. Fourteen sets of wide, wonder-filled eyes take in the newly constructed space as they are warmly welcomed by their teachers, Ms. Lida Lawrence and Ms. Haley Snyder. In this classroom, students find a beautiful play kitchen (built by a loving grandparent), open ended play materials, child-sized stools, and new wooden tables ready for snack time and art projects. No one can deny this is a beautiful space to learn.

It’s not unusual to hear exclamations like these rocketing around the trees in Forest Aftercare. In fact, this same student even went so far as to make up a song about how much she loves the woods. It’s hard to believe that this particular student joined Forest Aftercare this year with much trepidation. She did NOT like the woods. No Thank You. Not Interested. But in less than a week, she didn’t want to go home when her mother came to pick her up.

Give back to the planet on Earth Day by joining Project Clean Stream and the Waldorf School of Baltimore's Fifth Grade & Middle School in cleaning up the Jones Falls Trail Creek. This activity will take place on Friday, April 22 from 12:30 - 2:00pm; shortly after the 8:30am "What Works: Nature Studies" workshop with Michel Anderson. Join us and read more to volunteer.

Schools that move beyond the classroom walls and engage children in the natural world report significant student gains in academic performance and social development. Join Michel Anderson (Ecoliteracy Coordinator) on Wednesday, April 13 at 7:00pm or Friday, April 22 at 8:30am to learn more about the Waldorf commitment to immersing children in the natural world.
