CG-G3 Evening Lantern Walk
Thursday, November 7th
Children's Garden (Preschool and Kindergartens) & Elementary Grades 1-3.
Throughout the year, treasured festivals connect us with the cycle of nature, establish a seasonal rhythm for the children, and strengthen our community. The Lantern Walk is an early evening event for Children's Garden through Grade Three, with caregivers and younger siblings accompanying.
We will gather together at dusk, carrying handmade lanterns, symbolizing our own individual light, and journey through the Waldorf Woods and outdoor campus. Parents are asked to walk with their children and to help us preserve the mood of the evening by joining in the singing during the community circle and encouraging the children in reverent silence and calm for the walk. As this is a quiet, contemplative celebration, please refrain from using flashlights and cell phones.
Here is the list of songs we’ll be singing together, please give them a read so you can join in - it's an important part of the celebration. These are also available on Spotify.
- I Go with My Bright Little Lantern. "I go with my bright little lantern, my lantern is going with me. In heaven the stars are shining, on earth shines my lantern for me. The light grows dim as we go in, La bimbala bambala bim."
- Glimmer, Lantern, Glimmer. Verse 1. "Glimmer, lantern, glimmer, little stars a-shimmer. Over meadow, moor and dale, flitter, flutter elfin veil. Pee-wit, pee-wit, tick-a-tick-a-tick, roo-coo, roo-coo" Verse 2. "Glimmer, lantern, glimmer, Little stars a-shimmer. Over rock and stock and stone wander tripping little gnome. Pee-wit, pee-wit, tick-a-tick-a-tick, roo-coo, roo-coo."
- High & Blue the Sky. Verse 1 "High and blue the sky; Trees are very tall; Wild geese flying seem so small. See, on silent wings in flocks they go, never parting from the single row. We go through the land, like the wild geese band: Children in the flight are we." Verse 2: "Clear and dark the night; Stars are very bright; Lanterns shining seem so small. See, in single file we walk along, singing joyfully our lantern song. We go through the land, like the wild geese band: Children of one light are we.
- Tiny Lanterns. "Tiny lanterns burning bright, on this cold November night. Tiny lanterns light the way. Blessed be oh Martin's Day."
Leave yourself ample time in order to park and arrive for the start of our community singing circle.
